To which is Subjoin'd, A Letter to a Friend, in Answer to Sir Hugh Campbell of Calder, & Monsieur D'Espagne. Edinburgh: John Reid Junior, 1705. Leather. Average Minus . "... concerning the use thereof". 374 pages, back cover detached, spine worn, a few woodworm-type holes not affecting the text. The 80-page appendix is against the re-introduction to Public Worship of the Lord's Prayer (which Hog claims is a pattern for private use); the Westminster Assembly's Directory for Public Worship had mentioned it as suitable to be used, and the Church of Scotland General Assembly of 1705 enjoined closer adherance of public worship to the Directory. Many congregations in the smaller Presbyterian denominations in Scotland still do not use the Lord's Prayer in public worship, and a smaller number refrain from addressing God as Father in public prayer because those gathered are not all believers.
